THE FOUNDER OF TWINS HERITAGE
AGBANYO BERNARD ATSU
Founder & Administrator, Twins Heritage | Founder & Administrator, Volta Times
My name is Agbanyo Atsu Bernard, a twin and the founder of Twins Heritage.
My journey toward building Twins Heritage is deeply personal. I was born as a twin, but I lost my twin brother, Etse, at an early age.
Growing up without my twin created a sense of loneliness that I have carried with me throughout different stages of my life.
Yet, twins have always remained deeply connected to my family.
In a way, we became each other's missing twin — I became his Atsu, while he became my Etse.
It was as though our family found a way to complete a circle that had been broken by loss.
My aunt also gave birth to twin boys. Another uncle in the family had twins — a boy and a girl named Atsu and Atsupui. My elder sister, Kplove, who is the one immediately before me in the family, also gave birth to twin girls, Eyi and Yetsa.
Twins truly run through my family.
WHERE THE DREAM BEGAN
My idea of bringing twins together did not begin as a business idea or an event concept. It grew from my personal experiences as a twin and from watching the unique place twins occupy within families and communities.
From childhood, I developed a strong curiosity about the experiences, beliefs, traditions and connections surrounding twins. Some of my experiences in life — both physical and deeply personal — made me wonder about the uniqueness of the twin experience and the things that twins themselves could learn from one another.Life has also presented me with many challenges. I have struggled in different areas, including work, relationships and ordinary aspects of life. There were times when I felt that things that appeared easy for others required extraordinary effort from me.
Through these experiences, I began asking myself:
What if twins could come together and openly share their experiences, beliefs, challenges, knowledge and understanding?
What if we could create a community where a twin would meet another twin and immediately feel that they belonged?
That question gradually became a dream.
And that dream became Twins Heritage.
THE BIRTH OF TWINS HERITAGE
Twins Heritage was created to bring twins, parents of twins and families connected to twins together in a community built around identity, heritage, unity, love and development.
It is a place where we can share our stories, learn from one another, celebrate our identity, preserve our traditions and support one another through life's important moments.
What started as an idea has now grown into a real community, with twins coming together from different communities and backgrounds.
And the journey is only beginning.
My ambition is to take Twins Heritage beyond one town, one district or even one country. I envision a growing community connecting twins across Ghana, Ewe communities in West Africa and eventually twins around the world.
THE VISION
To build a vibrant global community of twins that fosters unity, love, cultural preservation, personal development and collective progress among twins, families and communities.
THE MISSION
Twins Heritage exists to:
Celebrate twin identity and uniqueness.
Preserve the cultural heritage and traditions surrounding twins.
Create opportunities for twins to connect and support one another.
Document the stories, experiences and traditions of twins.
Promote education, development and community support.
Build bridges among twins across Ghana, Africa and the world.
THE VOLTA TIMES CONNECTION
The creation of Twins Heritage is also an extension of my wider journey through Volta Times, a regional/community media platform I founded and administer.
Volta Times focuses on development, history, culture, tourism and social issues affecting the Volta Region, while connecting the people of the region at home and abroad.
My vision for Volta Times is to build a reliable and internationally recognised media house that documents the stories, people, cultures and development of the Volta Region and gives the region a stronger voice.
Through Volta Times, I have learned the importance of documentation, storytelling, community mobilisation and preserving our history for future generations.
Twins Heritage therefore represents another dimension of that same passion:
Volta Times documents the community.
Twins Heritage documents the twin experience.
Together, they reflect my belief that our stories, identities and heritage must not be lost.
EDUCATIONAL & PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Agbanyo Atsu Bernard completed his secondary education at Ho Saint Prospers College in 2012.
He later obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Human Resource Management from the University of Education, Winneba.
He also holds professional training and certificates in areas including Social Media Marketing and continues to pursue opportunities for further education and international professional development.
His educational and professional journey continues to support his broader goal of building sustainable community initiatives and taking Twins Heritage to an international level.
A DREAM BIGGER THAN ONE PERSON
I did not create Twins Heritage because I believe I have all the answers.
I created it because I believe we have many answers among us.
Every twin carries a story.
Every family has an experience.
Every community has traditions worth preserving.
And every generation has a responsibility to pass something meaningful to the next.
Twins Heritage is my contribution toward creating that space.
From the loss of my own twin brother, Etse, came a desire to understand the meaning of twinhood.
From that desire came a dream.
From the dream came a community.
And today, Twins Heritage is growing.
My hope is that one day, a twin anywhere in the world will hear the name Twins Heritage and know:
“This is a place where my identity is understood, my heritage is respected, and I belong.”
